Dettweiler's Sausage history begins on the Dettweiler farm near Breslau, Ontario where my dad, Harold, oldest son of Isaiah, helped his father with preparing meat to sell at the Preston market. The 1930's was well before specialization began in farming so the farm had some of everything: dairy cattle, beef and hogs, some chickens and gardens to supply the family with vegetables. At the beginning of the 1950's my dad decided to go into the butchering business, preparing the family farm's meat for market and delivery to customers in Breslau, Preston and Hespeler. He eventually named his business "Midway Meat Market" as Midway was the name of the local telephone exchange (so much so were telephone orders the driving force behind the fledgling business).
